Rhea Brathwaite 

 

Rhea Brathwaite has over 5 years of experience in criminal, human rights, governance, corruption, transparency and accountability issues. She has gained experience working at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), supporting their transparency and accountability agenda throughout the region, and has assisted in leading open government projects and projects to reduce corruption in the oil, mining, and gas sectors in Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, and Colombia. Rhea has also worked in Haiti as a legal and procurement consultant, tasked with assessing, negotiating, and concluding contracts with the private sector, and monitoring transparent execution of public sector projects.

 

Previously, she worked as a Foreign Associate and Global Legal Skills Program Advisor at the Costa Rica branch of Arias & Muñoz law firm. In this capacity, Rhea worked on varied legal issues such as due diligence reports, fraud cases, and cybercrime cases.

As part of her responsibilities, Ms. Brathwaite developed firm-wide programs to improve legal service delivery. She has delivered training or implemented projects in the areas of client relationship management, human rights, rule of law, and anti-corruption compliance matters. She also worked closely with Costa Rican lawyers to create and improve memos, legal opinions, and communications to international clients.

 

During her career, she has conducted extensive research and published widely, in particular, co-authoring a chapter by the IDB on transparency in the petroleum licensing process and writing a chapter for a book on international criminal law. As a result, she has been invited to speak at the International Criminal Court Assembly at United Nations Headquarters about her work.

 

Ms. Brathwaite received a Masters in International Law from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Law degree with Honors from University College London. She has passed the New York Bar Exam and is awaiting admission to practice law in New York.
